Buffy Summers, portrayed by Sarah Michelle Gellar, is the title character of the television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She first appears in the 1992 film of the same name, but the television series, premiering in 1997, provides a more in-depth and defining portrayal.

Buffy is a Slayer, a young woman chosen and imbued with superhuman strength, agility, and senses to fight vampires, demons, and other forces of darkness. Destined to fight evil, she struggles to balance her Slayer duties with a normal teenage life. Relocating to Sunnydale, California, she discovers the town sits atop a Hellmouth, a portal to demon dimensions, making it a hotbed of supernatural activity.

Initially reluctant and wanting a typical life, Buffy accepts her responsibility. She battles monsters, protects her friends, and matures into a powerful, self-reliant woman. Her relationships with her Watchers, friends (dubbed the "Scooby Gang"), and romantic interests are integral to her journey and character development throughout the series.
